PROVENCE, FRANCE, September 3-10, 2016

luc declerck
Luc, a Belgium-born, French-speaking logistics expert and inveterate traveller, is your knowledgeable guide to the region he now calls home.

Join me and Luc Declerck for a blissful, bountiful week of Deep Yoga, vineyard touring, wine tasting, a spa day, olive oil tasting and daily excursions to area markets, beautiful villages, towns and natural sights of the Upper Vaucluse area of Provence.

I will be leading you in gentle sun salutation Yoga to greet each morning poolside or in the chateau’s magnificent ballroom, and we will gather again after the day’s adventures for restorative Yoga and the complete relaxation of Yoga Nidra before dinner.

During the day, Luc will take you to the best local markets and on adventures to discover the area's rich geographical, natural, oenological, and cultural sites.

Your Retreat package includes a fresh, local, organic breakfast every morning; an authentic Provençal welcome dinner prepared by local chefs; a wine tasting (including supper) hosted by certified wine expert Wendy Gedney; and a next-day Wendy-led tour and tasting of the most famous vineyards and vintages of the region; and a day of pampering at a thermal spa. SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE, MEXICO: 2017 Dates to Be Decided

During our next eight-day Deep Yoga Retreat in historic San Miguel, our group of six to nine will again be staying at Kate Joyce’s fanciful Casa de las Ventanas with its romantic rooftop patio and panoramic views of this gorgeous colonial city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the mountains of central Mexico.

The iconic Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel

You’ll experience the bold colors and soft golden light that have drawn painters and photographers for decades as we greet the sun each morning with gentle Deep Yoga Flow. After a day of guided sightseeing, shopping, painting, snapping photos or writing, you’ll move at sunset into Deep Healing Yoga, a restorative practice that closes with the complete relaxation of Yoga Nidra.

Kate Joyce’s Casa de las Ventanas, our headquarters.

Kate’s warm and welcoming casa, in the Mexiquito neighborhood, is a 15-minute walk to La Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, the city’s iconic neo-Gothic church, and El Jardin, where townsfolk, ex-pats and tourists merrily mingle. It’s a five minute walk to the delights Aurora Fabrica, a converted textile mill with 66 art galleries and studios, three excellent cafes, and irresistible design shops.

Restorative Yoga on the rooftop patio

The fee for eight days and seven nights includes: 14 Deep Yoga classes; a full breakfast each morning; a welcoming fiesta featuring chef-cooked regional food and wine for us, neighbors and local Yogis; guided tours of the city, one for its architecture, one to explore its most creative sites and hangouts.  Mid-week maid service is part of the package. Also available as an optional (and inexpensive) add-on is a day in nearby Atotonilco where story-telling folk murals cover the walls and ceilings of the village church (the Sistine Chapel of Mexico), where ceramicist Mayer Shacter’s gallery of Mexican folk art amazes, La Gruta thermal spa relaxes and the upscale restaurant of Nirvana makes for a day of rich contrasts. I will make these arrangements for all who are interested.

Happy Yogis on Day One — I’ve led four more retreats in San Miguel since!
happy clients

Single rooms with bath and verandah are $900 for the week’s accommodations and activities; double rooms, also with private baths and a verandah, are $750 per person.  Two “single” rooms have double beds and are appropriate for a couple at a rate of $1250 per couple.

(Not included are land transfers, which I will arrange, most dinners, and plane fare to Leon in the state of Guanajuato. The sooner flights are booked on Volaris, the less expensive they are, as low as $229 from Tijuana, round trip. I can provide details.)

I am happy to answer any other questions about the San Miguel adventure and my Deep Yoga classes at or 858.401.3713.

San Miguel de Allende

Thanks to the detailed planning and expert guidance of Anne Marie Welsh, my recent Deep Yoga Retreat in San Miguel de Allende proved an amazing experience. Five friends and I began every day with Anne Marie’s invigorating yet relaxing Yoga class on the rooftop patio of Kate Joyce’s wonderful Casa de las Ventanas where we all stayed. After a plentiful breakfast, we explored the beautiful and historic colonial city. With Anne Marie as our guide, we shopped, ate excellent Mexican food, visited parks and art galleries, met many friendly neighbors, took an architectural tour and spent a fascinating day visiting the nearby village of Atotonilco. She took great care to offer an array of interesting opportunities all geared toward our personal interests.

Anne Marie is a lovely person and a delight to spend time with. She has a warm and open heart, and a vibrant spirit that shines through in everything she does. She and Kate together were wonderful hosts. With an informal, yet generous touch, they attended to all our needs, giving us a truly immersive and festive experience of San Miguel and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

If there's such a thing as a sublime contradiction, a week spent cocooned with Anne Marie Welsh and Kate Joyce in San Miguel de Allende is it. Relaxing and energizing. Serene and spirited. Soulful and whimsical. Grounding and liberating. Brimming with opportunities for daydreaming (napping?) and conscious creativity. Truly, this weeklong Deep Yoga idyll in that magical place, with its rich contemporary and historical dimensions—and with that nonpareil pair as gentle, inspiring guides and caretakers—may be as close to heaven on Earth as many of us will ever get. Truly, this accessible, vibrant getaway provides nourishment for body, mind, and soul.

Like the proverbial horse and carriage, San Miguel de Allende and Deep Yoga are the perfect combination. This colonial town of sloping cobbled streets, lush tropical flora and lively Native culture provided the backdrop for Sunrise and Sunset yoga; our daily practice took place on the sun kissed rooftop of Kate Joyce’s Casa de Las Ventanas, a lovely traditional home located just a 15-minute walk from the main plaza downtown. As the peaceful yet energizing yoga soothed and filled our spirit, it prepared us for a day filled with beautiful art, wonderful food, world class shopping, music and culture. The sunlit streets lined with colorful houses took us past cloistered patios filled with galleries, restaurants, shops and historical museums.

Whether we chose to sit quietly and reflect amid the books of a centuries old library or witness the cacophony of color in a Fiesta at El Jardin, San Miguel was a like a gift to be opened and savored. The beauty of the location and the clarity of the sunlight created an inspirational setting in which to experience exceptional Yoga and extraordinary Mexico. I will treat myself to this retreat again and again.

This was an epic trip with you…strong minded and talented women. I loved every minute of it and can’t wait to return. All of my purchases fit well in my house, so I even had success in the shopping area, too! I love, love, love my painting by Susan Santiago as it lets me re-live San Miguel and the beautiful shadows, buildings, light and color! Thank you again, Kate and Anne Marie, for going out of your way for us.

A million thanks to Anne Marie for informing me about the "Yoga Cucina Dream Week in Tuscany with the fabulous Yoga and cooking classes. Another million thanks to Marlane for creating Il Campo Cucina (yum-yum) and the entire Radicondoli experience with all the very special people connected with it.

Yes, it was an extraordinary week under the Tuscan sun. I loved every minute of it!!!

I had a fabulous time in Italy on a yoga and cooking retreat in Tuscany (Yoga Cucina Dream Week) with Anne Marie Welsh and other guests. It was First Class from Day One. Wonderful country, food, wine, Deep Yoga classes, and travel companions. I can't think of a vacation I have ever enjoyed as much as this one. I'm already planning on next year. Marlane Miriello’s hospitality and the Il Bel Canto venue were incomparable. I love, love, loved it all!

I had such a wonderful time with you, Anne Marie, with Marlane, our group and the villagers in Radicondoli. Tell me when you are doing another Yoga Cucina. I will come again, for certain, and round up a friend or two to bring with me. Love from. . .

My best memories of our time in Tuscany are Anne Marie’s sunset yoga classes by the pool and the red fox who watched us from a cautious distance.

I enjoyed my Transformational Yoga for Writers Retreat in Radicondoli tremendously. It was a superb week, during which the beautiful landscape and the unique workshops inspired me to write prolifically. Anne Marie created a sense of safety for the participants to explore their deeper voices, and the Yogic tools she shared—meditation, mantra and the physical practice—made me feel centered, peaceful, and energized. Comfortable accommodations and delicious, local Tuscan food were other highlights of a retreat I highly recommend.

This was a very nice, if surprising, combination for me. I found the Yoga a great way to get myself in a good physical and mental state to open up for writing. Anne Marie has a warm calming ability to make you feel completely comfortable. I enjoyed the experience very much and for my writing, it was very productive.
Thanks, Anne Marie!

My husband and I spent the most glorious week with Anne Marie Welsh and Luc Declerck in September, 2015 on a Deep Yoga retreat in Provence! This week was as much about the food & wine of this particular Vaucluse region in Provence, as it was about the yoga. We could not have had better hosts as everything was done for us and we had the benefit of Luc's knowledge of the region, and Anne Marie's wonderful yoga teachings! My husband & I are real foodies and we were so impressed by the quality of the food and restaurants that were chosen for us, as well as all the sights, tours, and the beautiful Villa Theophile where we stayed! Luc took us to villages, wineries, abbeys and sights we would not have found on our own. We had traveled to Provence twice in the past, but never had such an in depth and wonderful experience in a congenial atmosphere in such beautiful surroundings. It was hard to say au revoir at the end of the week.

When a friend approached me with the brochure on the “Deep Yoga Retreat: An Enchanting Week in Provence" I was reluctant to get involved. After all, as an international flight attendant, I had traveled the world and was convinced nothing could top the trips I had taken for the last 40 years. In spite of my reservations, I decided to take the trip. As it turned out, this trip was by far the most interesting and fun I had ever taken! The chateau was more magnificent that I could ever imagine!! Every morning we were greeted with fresh coffee, fruit and croissants brought that morning from the local bakery. Luc Declerck was our guide, chauffeur, translator, and friend! Apparently he had spent several months researching the restaurants and towns we would visit on our trip and did an extraordinary job. Anne Marie Welsh offered us yoga every morning and evening in an elegant ball room. She worked behind the scenes to make sure we were all well and enjoying the trip. She is a remarkable yoga instructor and a wonderful person. Our small group was flexible, as were Luc and Anne Marie, which made the trip perfect!

Our experience and stay at Villa Theophile in Gigondas for a Deep Yoga retreat was amazing. Luc, Lucia and Anne Marie meticulously attended to all the details for the week. They were very well organized and sensitive to individual needs. The invigorating yoga class in the morning led by Anne Marie set the tone for the day. We felt energized and excited to explore historical sites, enjoy regional food in superb restaurants, and sample wines of the region with Luc, Lucia and the others in our group. The week was filled with magical moments thanks to our expert tour guides and Deep Yoga teacher.

Provence . . . Villa Theophile . . . yoga . . . vineyards . . . local cuisine . . . wineries . . . Roman ruins . . . museums . . . opera . . . Spa Ventoux…market day…wine tasting…perched cities…it doesn’t get any better than this!

After working with Anne Marie as an editor and coach as I wrote six books, I decided to join her ongoing Writers Workshop. Over 16 weeks, I bonded with the other students and learned so much about the techniques and tools of personal narrative that my memoir is at last becoming a reality. I cannot recommend this skilled and caring teacher highly enough.

Anne Marie brings a supportive, positive energy to her workshops. Her knowledge of Yoga, her understanding of writers and the writing process, and her love of sharing her skills are all evident. Attendees report being enriched by her writing exercises. And for me, it's been a joy to hear what they've written after a short time with this fine instructor.

What a wonderful, and auspicious workshop! I loved it all. The physical postures were truly heart-opening. And Anne Marie orchestrated the day so well, a perfect combination of words, the actual Yoga, and then the writing with prompts. Loved the handouts connecting Yogic tools to the writing process. Even the music was so well-chosen.

The members of my writing group, and the male friend I invited all loved the workshop too. I hope Anne Marie will be doing this many places.

I was so happy to get a chance to take Anne Marie's workshop. She is a really great teacher, who knows so much about Yoga, has a soothing voice, and is so supportive of everyone's efforts. The Yoga practice opened me up for the writing exercises that allowed me to do some hard thinking and journaling. Amazing!!!
